Continuing Nutrition Education: The purpose of organising
such CNEs was to celebrate World Heart Day with a focus
to disseminate information concerned with “matters
related to the heart”. These Continuing Nutrition
Education under the aegis of Health Essayists and Authors
League (HEAL) National Chapter were aimed to develop
integrated thinking on the importance of cardiac care
in modern day society, analysing pros and cons of Indian
diet as well as developing & improving the sedentary
lifestyle.
With changing lifestyles, we are adding fried food to
an already existing tradition of rich food commonly being
consumed in India. This often leads to rising incidence
in coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other
associated illnesses in the community - particularly
in young men – which is almost twice as high as
their western counterparts. These rising incidences of
lifestyle diseases are associated with consumption of
saturated and trans fats commonly found in Vanaspati
cooked Samosa, Kachoris, Chole Bhatures and many other
road-side unregulated snacks. Hence, the need of modifying
the lifestyle these days is felt more in India where
over 50% are young and average age of a heart attack
is 30 years.
